Frage Question about offline maps and location via wifi points

    Hi there,

I have an iPad mini (Wifi only model, hence no GPS chip), and have downloaded the UK complete map. As I wander around my town, I find that despite the iPad having no network connection, it still very successfully finds were I am.

My question is how is this happening? Obviously it is triangulating from known wifi hotspots, but is this coming from iOS's Location Services (i.e. does Apple 'cache' the wifi points of a certain region that it knows you are in) or is the SatNav app doing something clever? Does the app itself have any knowledge of wifi points and their locations? In either scenario, does anyone know how large the actual cached wifi area is?
