New permission: account access

Google Play is offering to update my purchased copy of GPS Navigation & Maps +offline. It states that the app needs a new permission, to add or remove accounts and use accounts on my device. I'm not sure what this means, but it sounds like the app wants the keys to the kingdom and I'm reluctant to say yes. Why does the app want this permission, and how can I be sure it doesn't entail unintended consequences?

Hi,

When you start the app > main menu > OpenStreetMap, you find the apps section. There, you can access Google Play in order to buy the promoted applications. For this function, the app needs this permission.
